About Jian Zhan
Jian Zhan, recognized as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage of China, is crafted using the traditional formula of “iron-rich clay, raw mineral stone, and plant ash.”
Its shape is simple and rustic, with a thick body, full form, and rich glaze. The creation of a Jian Zhan cup involves thirteen meticulous steps: selecting porcelain minerals, crushing the minerals, washing, mixing, aging, refining clay, kneading, forming, trimming, bisque firing, glazing, loading the kiln, and firing.
This complex process results in glaze colors that are unpredictable and brilliant, showcasing the mystical and profound beauty of Jian Zhan in all its glory.
